We used Copenhagen as our home base and from there we took two day trips, each by train. Our Scan Rail Pass covered these fares. On our first day trip we went to Odense and Roskilde. On the other day trip we went to Humlebaek, Helsingor, and Hillerod.
Hans Christian Andersen (photo 1) was born in Odense, Denmark. Photos 2 & 3 show some streets in Odense and Photo 4 shows a cheese shop.
The Hans Christian Andersen Museum in Odense covers his life history. Among their collections is the painting of Photo 1 and the paper cuttings of photos 2-4.
We stopped at Roskilde to see some replicas of Viking boats. But before we get to the replicas, lets take a tour of the town.
Photo 1 - The main street.
Photo 2 - City Hall
Photos 3&4 - Church in Roskilde.
An old house on one of the side streets.
At the site of the Roskilde Norse Boat Museum, old boats were dug up from the harbor. They build replicas of the boats from measurements taken from the old ones.
The Louisiana Museum is in the town of Humlebaek. This photo shows a quaint house with great roses in front.
The Louisiana Museum has a great modern art collection.
Photo 1 - The feature exhibition was about flowers, hence the giant iris in front of the museum.
Photo 2&3 - The museum and some of its grounds. It was on the ocean and had great views.
Below are some representative works from the Lousiana Museum.

We made a brief stop in Helsingor to take a picture of Kronborg Castle, which claims to be Hamlet's castle but probably isn't. We were on our way to see Frederiksborg Castle, a much fancier castle, so were not motivated to tour this one.
Photo 1 - this was once Hillerod's city hall.
Photo 2 - cute elephants in Hillerod's central square.
Wood carvings in children's parks.
And now Frederiksborg Castle.
Photo 1 - the outside.
Photo 2 - the large and impressive chapel.
Photo 3 - the chapel's organ. We were lucky and even heard it played.
Photo 4 - ornate silver altar in the chapel.
Photo 1 - stained glass windows in the chapel.
Photo 2&3 - impressive castle rooms.
Photo 4 - formal maze on the castle grounds.
